I’m not even sure this Slow Cooker Applesauce can be called a recipe because it only has 2 ingredients, but I wanted to share it because it’s so easy and delicious! I went apple picking yesterday with my parents and my boyfriend and we came back with a ton of ripe, delicious New York state apples! I used a mixture of Gala, Mackintosh and Jonamac apples in this applesauce, but feel free to mix it up and try other varieties. I let this cook overnight and it really couldn’t be simpler. I love unsweetened applesauce (apples are naturally sweet!) but you can certainly add a little sugar or brown sugar if you desire (will change nutrition information). This Slow Cooker Applesauce couldn't be easier to make and it tastes amazing!
Yield: 6(1/2 cup) servings
Ingredients
8medium-large apples, peeled, cored and cut into wedges
1/4cupwater
Cinnamon, to taste
Instructions
Place the peeled apple wedges into your slow cooker and add water. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours. Mash apples lightly with the back of a spook or a fork (apples will fall apart easily). Add cinnamon (I would start with ½ teaspoon and see if you want more), stir in and continue to cook on low for another 15 minutes. For chunkier applesauce, serve as is. For smooth applesauce, use an immersion blender or place applesauce in a food processor and pulse until desired consistency is reached. Can serve warm or cold. Makes about 3 cups.
